I have read the transcript of the J.K. Rowling interview when she went on a book-reading tour to Scotland and she has definitely let out a number of clues about the next Harry Potter book. I know everyone must be wondering who the half-blood prince is and websites upon websites are pouring in telling us about their ideas as to who readers think he is. The very first clue that Rowling specified was, the half-blood prince was neither Harry nor Lord Voldemort (a.k.a. Tom Riddle). Secondly, she said he was mentioned in the second book, The Chamber of Secrets, and even mentioned something about this person's background, which she had then since removed because it was not really very relevant to that book yet. So she decided to mention it in another book where it will be more appreciated, hence the sixth book. She mentioned that the prince was a contender in the second book, which means he was either thought of to be Slytherin's heir or some half-blood they thought would die... but however you may look at it, he must have really had a bigger role in Chambers. There were several wizards, some half-blood, some pure bloods, mentioned in the Chamber book that had big and significant roles: * We discount Harry and Voldemort (a.k.a. Tom Riddle), of course * Draco Malfoy = Harry and his friends thought Draco was the heir of Slytherin....but we have to discount him as well because he's pure blood. * Hagrid = He was accused by Tom Riddle as the one letting the monster of the chamber loose and Hagrid is a half blood... but what significance would his being a half blood be? We are already aware of that. * Neville Longbottom = Gotta discount this one as well, he's pureblood. * Godric Gryffindor = Well, I think there's more sense in him being the half-blood prince. He was mentioned often in the second book as well, but we were never told of his background, of why he invited half-blood wizards and witches to the school... besides, read the excerpt of the sixth book: “He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp.” The excerpt keeps talking about a man who is already old and is like and old lion. Isn't the lion the sign of Godric Gryffindor? What will the significance of the old school's cemetery be if the half-blood prince is still a live... and there is an importance of that old cemetery. Remember what the director, Cuaron, said when he wanted to put a cemetery on the scene? Rowling stepped in and asked him not to put a cemetery because it's in the other side of the castle which will play a big role in the sixth book. To me... this all makes sense, what do you all think? |
